Noon Check-in, Network, and Illuminate Your Experience
Step into the circle - You'll likely hear some rocking music and see red shirts as you approach the Union. When you get to the top of the steps, snap a selfie on the red circle carpet as if you're giving your TED talk.
Check yo self in - Pick up your badge and hold it close because this is your all access pass to the day’s activities (pro tip: it also holds your free drink ticket for the Tin Roof After Party). Grab your TEDx goods - Don’t forget to pick up your bag of goodness, including the official (and coveted) 2019 TEDxLSU t-shirt and a few other goodies from our partners. Walk this way - As you enter the LSU Gallery, immerse yourself in a multi-sensory, multi-modal experience. Designed by Jeremy Harper, the illuminate portal is a unique installation constructed specifically for TEDxLSU 2019. Get inside your head - Sneak a peek inside the mind of 30 sculptures around the TEDx lounge. Created by LSU design students, these figures illuminate the visual embodiment of a singular emotion derived from the noise inside our heads. Have some WRKFun - Visit with our friends from WRKF, the Baton Rouge NPR affiliate and home to the weekly TED Radio Hour. Strike a pose - Grab your new friends, pick up a few props and get ready to say “cheese” at the beCAPTURED photo booth! After you pose for a picture, tag yourself on TEDxLSU’s Facebook and tell the world which ideas you’ll be spreading. Lights, camera, action - Smile at the many high-tech video cameras you see around the theater. Greg Milneck and the Digital FX team are the region’s leading digital cinema camera experts who have been capturing the best side of TEDxLSU speakers and their engaged audience since 2014. Thanks to them, the ideas you experience live are illuminated for the world via the TEDx YouTube channel. Rocked by the stage - The visual symphony of the TEDx stage was carefully directed by Wes Kennison and illuminated by LSU physics major Bailey Hutzler, lighting designer and programmer Chase Nichols, and graphic designer Andre Dugal. |

The Making of TEDxLSU 2019
Since the inaugural TEDxLSU in 2013, it has become a centrifuge of 100+ team members from all walks of life: creators, makers, students, educators, designers, writers, business leaders, foodies, side hustlers, and jacks/jills-of-all-trades. The team you see throughout this space and operating behind the scenes dedicated hours, weeks and months to today’s experience to create something that celebrates and elevates the spirit and ideas of the Baton Rouge community.
Are you enjoying this program? Someone wrote it, someone edited it, and another someone designed it, along with all the other materials you’ve encountered in various settings across the city.
Did you feel the feels or think the things during a Talk today? Your speakers practiced for this, and a crew of word wizards and visual communicators supported them.
Are you wowed by TEDxLSU Talk videos you watch online, as well as the set design and all the amazing lounge activities you’re experiencing right now? Multiple teams collaborated to produce those with you in mind.
Are you admiring the enthusiasm and know-how of the people around you wearing red shirts? They trained for this, and other team members signed on specifically to guide them. Ask them what they did to prepare for the day.
Are you inspired by the people you are connecting with and the conversations you’re engaged in? This is part of TEDx too — your actions and ideas, today and every day.
Cheers to the brilliant community partners who helped make TEDxLSU 2019 possible!
Special thanks to Becky Carmichael, Morgan Kastner, Brandi Simmons, SK Groll, Kim Valliere, Regina Leingang, Audrey Grismore, Matthew Dunn, and Marsha Cuddeback.
