Imagine a world where people are not afraid to pursue their passions or take risks to find freedom in their work. TEDxLSU celebrated those innovators in our community that embrace their entrepreneurial spirit during Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week (BREW).
BREW  is a week-long series of events filled with panels, keynotes, networking, and discussions about entrepreneurship to celebrate innovation and ideas in our community. Since TEDxLSU works to create platforms for sharing great ideas in Baton Rouge, getting involved with BREW was a perfect fit.

To TEDxLSU, entrepreneurship is much more than owning a business and making a name for yourself. It’s about carrying that entrepreneurial spirit into every aspect of your life, whether it’s at work, with your family, or in your local volunteer group. 2017 TEDxLSU speaker and founder of Clear Blue Design, Chris Dykes, describes his idea of an entrepreneurial spirit as a two phase process: “It starts as the passion to do something different, to leave a job, quit what you’re doing, and take a leap of faith. Once you’re there, it morphs into fighting through times when you want to quit and times when you want to give up. Putting one foot in front of the other when you don’t know where to go, and just doing it everyday.”

BREW 2016 kicked off on November 14 with an opening night event hosted by LSU Innovation & Technology Commercialization to showcase emerging businesses and ideas in the Baton Rouge area. Over 40 exhibitors were spread throughout the venue, with a red carpet and local band Ship of Fools welcoming guests upon arrival. TEDxLSU hosted the “local visions” lounge,  where guests kicked their feet back and enjoyed Louisiana food and brews while sharing their ideas for creative innovations with each other.

In partnership with Entrepreneur’s Organization Louisiana (EO), TEDxLSU also co-hosted Friday’s BREW closing event at Tin Roof Brewery. Local entrepreneurs shared ideas (and a pint or two) while taking part in the discussion about what it means to be an entrepreneur.
