Jay Ducote knows coffee. When he's not enjoying a cup from a local Baton Rouge coffee shop, he might just be in the Dominican Republic helping farmers grow it or roasting his own brew at a local roasting company. With degrees from LSU in political science and economics, it makes perfect sense for him to be an expert in the food and beverage industry....right?? Well, yeah. That's exactly what he's become after his experience with food blogging, hosting a food radio show, and even competing on multiple cooking T.V. shows. His upcoming projects include developing more food products, opening his first restaurant and traveling the world to share his message that "everything global is local somewhere." Check out Jay's 2017 talk below! Each Friday, we'll "flashback" to see the ins and outs from our 2017 event. Enjoy! Have we mentioned how much we love our TEDxLSU volunteers??
Words by: Tori Landry Photos by: Sean Richardson Dr. Tiffany Stewart is on a mission to demolish the concept of body image reflecting physical health. Stewart was a competitive gymnast for 10 years, and faced adversity when trying to meet the sports' expectations, both the way her body looked and performed. After a series of injuries forced her to think of her body’s function rather than its form, she realized just how significant of a connection there is between the two often competing viewpoints. After finishing college and obtaining a PhD in psychology from LSU, she formed the company Body Evolution Technologies (BET). BET serves as a way to combat eating disorders using mobile apps and online gaming programs. She currently serves as an associate professor at Pennington Biomedical Research Center. She received various grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Defense to research health nutrition in female collegiate athletes and soldiers in the military. With this much expertise in the field, the TEDxLSU team was thrilled she agreed to give a talk at the 2017 event. Take a look by pressing play below! |
