Mosquitoes get a bad wrap for spreading viruses, and Rebecca Christofferson is here to set the record straight.
As an assistant professor in Pathobiological Sciences with the Vector-borne Disease Laboratories at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, a large part of Rebecca’s research focuses on how and when mosquitoes carry viruses to uncover the patterns that dictate why and when humans get sick. The hope is that this research will help inform methods for controlling and preventing the spread of infections through human populations.
In her 2018 TEDxLSU talk, Rebecca explains that the solution to stopping the spread of viruses is not to kill all mosquitoes, but instead take an environmentalist approach.
